Mark your calendar with Stampin' Up!'s four-day online celebration of Digital Scrapbooking Days!
November 4-7, 2011
I don't know if you know it, but I'm a huge My Digital Studio fan. I use it whenever I can and for sure every Christmas when I make 12 x 12 calendars for my family. I'll be sharing some of those pages in mid to late December.
But for now.......next weekend, November 4-7, by participating in a short survey from Stampin' Up!, you will be able to receive some FREE DIGITAL CONTENT. Remember, with MDS (My Digital Studio) content, you can also use it with most other digital scrapbooking formats.
Why not set some time aside on this weekend to digitally document some of your personal family history ?
After filling out a short Stampin' Up! survey on www.MyDigitalStudio.net (they're trying to understand more about customer intereset in digital scrapbooking in general and My Digital Studio in specific) you'll be able to download this brand new MDS content:
So Typefelt Stamp Brush Set
Neutral Delightful Digital Tape
Home for the Holidays Ensemble
Delight in the Day Photobook Template
As a Stampin' Up! demonstrator I'll get a chance to download this content early and create some scrapbook pages. Be watching for what I come up with!
Remember, the survey will be available herebetween November 4th and 7th.
Can you believe an entire year (almost) has passed since all of our excitement about the current Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog was in the air??? Well, it has and it's just about time to invite the 2011-2012 IB&C into our homes and craft rooms or areas. Or tables.
Be sure to check and see that you have ordered any stamp set from the current IB&C because there are only 3 more days until many sets and accessories retire!
Which stamp set will you be missing most? (...But you'll be sure to have it in your private collection, right?) Leave a comment below with the top three items you'll be missing when they retire. Mine will be some ribbons and papers for sure:
Daffodil Delight 5/8" Satin Ribbon (119750), p. 191
Jumbo Eyelets (108431-Antique Brass or 108432-Pewter), p. 188
Celebrations Designer Series Paper (117164)
Click here to view the 'how-to' for making this great little scrapbook. I used both Jumbo Eyelets and the Celebrations Designer Series Paper. There's a link in the beginning of that article for a tutorial so don't miss that either.
Dont' forget to let me know about your favorites that are leaving.........
This is the last of my 8 completed pages created last Saturday at the Expo in Pleasanton CA. It was a perfect day to be indoors since it poured (rain) and blew (wind) all day long.
Hmmmmm......I wonder if I'll be enjoying power at my house by the time this posts!? My poor hubby is exhausted from removing snow. And we keep it cleared in case of emergency so we can get out of our house and down the 150-200 foot driveway.
OK: here are my final pages:
I tried a little color blocking on these pages, keeping them fairly simply. Again the layout was from a template presented in a Creating Keepsakes magazine.
Stampin' Up! product:
Early Espresso Marker for journaling.
Tomorrow? I sure hope I have a great little purse sized scrapbook/brag book to share with you. I plan on doing some stamping once I get home. It's just having the power and internet connection for posting and sending.
If this is Wednesday, we still have no power! So you get to enjoy another of my camping adventure scrapbook pages. As I said on Monday, we have such a fun time camping. It's a family and friends gathering, about 45 minutes from our home, at about 6,500-7,000 ft, up Highway 108 in the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Today's selection is from 2010! The only 2010 pages done so far. I seem to have buried my 2009 photos "somewhere"!
After the kiddies are tucked into their beds in their tents (yes, we tent camp), the adults gather at the table/s and play Mexican Trains, a domino game. No one can remember what 'got' Andrea, but she sure had the giggles. Could have been the two beers she was hoarding???
Stampin' Up! products:
Cajun Craze card stock
Elements from the retired "At Home" Simply Scrappin' Kit (retired)
Here is (are) the second pair of pages I completed on Saturday:
Do I need to mention how DIRTY we get when camping? The 7 kids ranged from 5 to 18 months. They were all so filthy we filled the wading pool---that soon became another mud pit---and scrubbed them down right before campfire and bedtime. Yes, those are my feet. Nice huh?
I purchased this paper at the Expo, looking for something that was splashy and watery. If you click on the photo you might be able to see the embossing and glitter on the paper.
STAMPIN' UP! PRODUCTS:
Retired Notebook Alphabet & Notebook Numbers sets that my daughter had brought along.
FYI: I'll be leaving the San Francisco Bay Area shortly, heading home to 4-5 feet of fresh snow and no power. I'm going to post the pages I created while at the scrapping Expo in Pleasanton CA on Saturday. We cropped from 9.30 a.m., left at 11 p.m. 8 pages completed!!! :) Daughter completed more like 15 or more. It was pouring down rain with strong gusty winds as we scrambled to the car......laughing all the way!
I have used oh-too-many non-Stampin' Up! items but you'll find SU! items scattered about on each page. I scrap only our family camping trips. Most of what I worked on Saturday was 2008, with a sprinking of 2009 and even one for 2010. My pre-planning was not so good -- not recommended. I forgot to be sure I had my photos! I managed.
Click on the photo to see both pages!!
Stampin' Up! products used:
wide striped Old Olive grosgrain ribbon
punch with the arrows
The other products were freebies given away last year at the Expo. No freebies this year. Sigh.
As my inspiration, I used templates/layouts from my collection of Creating Keepsakes magazines. I tear out layouts that I like, or save the template page that is somewhere in each issue. I sort the layouts, in a binder with tabs, by 1 photo, 2 photos, 3 photos, 4-5 photos. It makes it so much easier when I go to use a group of photos and don't know where to begin. I'm a very novice scrapbooker, especially when I 'attack' it once/year!!!
Tomorrow.......another set of pages. I DID have a great time working on them and I hope perhaps you can see the layout idea and go from there on your own pages.
Since Sale-a-Bration is drawing to a close, I decided to feature a different product every day from now through the 31st of March.
Today..........a great and easy (love that word) mini scrapbook!
You will need:
12" x 12" Peach Parfait card stock (119799) and Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper & Quick Accents Pack (122242--SAB)
Peach Parfait:
1 pc. 5" x 12", scored at 2-1/2", 3", 8", and 8-1/2"
Bone Folder (102300). Firmly crease each score line, ensuring that each fold is perpendicular to the card stock edges before creasing with the bone folder.
2 pc. 4-3/4" x 12", scored at 4-3/4" and 9-1/2
Firmly crease each score line as described above, folding the scored lines as show below.
Open up the 5" x 12" piece and lay the two matching pieces in the center as shown below.
You will want the folded edges to be "about" 1/8" from the edge of the sides.
The centers will overlap a bit.
When these pieces are folded into position they should be pretty even on each side.
Be sure to apply a generous amount of Snail Adhesive (104332). If you think your mini album will get a lot of use, use Sticky Tape (104294) instead of Snail.
Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch (119275)
Daffodil Delight cardstock, 5" x 1-1/2" (scrap): punch out a strip with the punch and attach it to the inside of the top flap of the mini scrapbook with Snail Adhesive.
The DSP layer on the bottom half is 4-3/4" x 3-1/4". I used a piece from the In Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack (117158).
Belly Band: 1" x 12", Daffodil Delight. Rather than prescore the belly band, gently fold it around the mini album and fold it at score lines. Secure with Snail over the top flap. This will be covered with the embellishment.
Using the Big Shot Die Cut Machine (113439) and the Large Scalloped Square Bigz Die (115950) cut out a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock.
Using Snail adhesive, attach it to the center/inside of the mini album.
Decorate the scalloped square piece using theSweet Summer (123214) SAB stamp set.
Add a greeting or message as desired.
Use the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch (118074) to punch out a piece of Old Olive card stock. Attach pieces from the Quick Accents Packas desired. I attached many of them with Dimensionals. Tie a knotted piece (or a bow) using the Ice Cream Parlor ribbon from the Ribbon & Button Pack (123529). Attach with a Glue Dot (103683).
Sadly, I don't have any printed and appropriate spring photos to attach to the inside of the album. I think you can do that on your own. Add journaling or embellishments as desired.
IF you needed all of the supplies used for this mini album, you would be able to earn one of the Sale-a-Bration sets used.
12" x 12" In Color card stock, 20 sheets, 2 of each color, $10.95
TOTAL with Snail refill only rather than new full package: $71.15
While all of these items are 'consumable', many of them will last you a long, long time and will be vital ingredients for many projects. If you need to order anything be sure to send me an email or go directly to my stampin' store but clicking on my signature below.
I'll see you again tomorrow, sharing a totally different look. See you then.

And speaking of MDS (My Digital Studio), I received this memorable goodie from my daughter for my birthday last week:
Last year, you might remember, she promised me a "day" to do whatever I wanted, without children or spouses. The girl is a whiz-bang at organizing my closets or my clothes, being a personal shopper, or whatever. So--we organized some closet space and then went skiing which was decided upon about 4 hours before we went. No real ski clothes, no boots or poles. We really just winged it with what we found in the house. So this year for my birthday, she offered me the framed, MDS created, memory of last year's event, with the promise of "a day" again this year, spent doing whatever I want together with her. I'm thinking maybe an icky job, turned into fun of course, like cleaning "my half of the garage", thus making room for my car and allowing me access to my buried stamping hidden stash. We'll see. I'm definitely going to try to think of something a lot more fun though. :)
This is the last group of My Digital Studio pages that I'll be sharing for a while.
As I said a few days ago, when I return from Leadership I'll be creating some video tutorials to help you create your own calendar or scrapbook or merely individual pages that you can print, or have printed. Ohhhhhhh, the possibilities!
Below: This page used a 'canned' photo template and is great for dropping in a bunch of photos relating to one event. It uses the "Distressed" Background Paper. Pretty quick and easy--and it tells a great story.
Below: a memorable vignette from our Annual Family Camping Trip. This is a 'canned' photo template, with the bottom right photo box removed and an embellishment added.
This is the perfect photo for lightening the 'opacity' and placing on a calendar page. And it leaves room for a full strength photo to be placed where you want.
I wanted all of these photos to be used but on a Calendar there just isn't always room. So, creating my own photo boxes I stretched one photo box to fill the entire page and added the merry-go-round and then reduced the now infamous 'opacity' to about 40%. The I added 3 little photo boxes (this will be on one of the video tutorials) to highlight each child and their Halloween costume.
No room for a two year old's birthday photo? Add it to the calendar date page, reduce the 'opacity' to about 30% and add a celebration greeting.
I'm hitting the road today for my excursion to Nashville, Tennessee for Stampin' Up!'s Annual Leadership Conference. When I return next week I'll begin working on the video tutorials. In the meantime, I'll be sharing some fun ideas learned at Leadership. My guess is that there will be lots of cards swapped and that they'll be emphasizing the new Occasions Mini Catalog as well as ideas for the upcoming Sale-a-Bration. Ohhhhh the excitement! Be sure to check in all week for inspiration.
I'll be sharing my swap card tomorrow. Which stamp set, from the Occasions Mini Catalog do you think I used? I'll send a full card, same design, to the first person who gets it right!
Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio is a fabulous tool if you do any of those things. Yesterday, Stampin' Up! announced the winners of a My Digital Studio contest they just ran--for both customers and demonstrators. Check out the winning projects here. Click on the link below each winner's photo to see their very do-able projects.
Stampin' Up! is also keeping us right up to date by creating and making available more new downloads. Click here to see the latest downloads, plus 'older' ones. You don't have to have My Digital Studio to purchase these downloads -- you can use them in any program that supports .jpg and .png files and layers. These would include Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements as well as many others.
There is another great resource out there for you: http://www.MyDigitalStudio.net. It's a great site with samples, video tutorials, tips and Q&A forums for both customers and demonstrators. The tips can be quite helpful!
Tomorrow I'll be giving you some more My Digital Studio tips plus I'll share a few more pages that are in the 2011 calendars I just completed. I feel so good having completed this project and want to share snippets of my pages.
TIP: If you already own My Digital Studio, but have not yet updated it to the most recent version, please do so right now! It's very important to be current with the updates. Each update gives you greater functionality, repairing known glitches as well as giving you access to new products. Be sure to update before you purchase any new downloads.
How do you do an update?
Open My Digital Studio
Drop down the HELP menu
Scroll down to "Check for Updates" and click
The 'Updater' screen will appear and will search for updates and will tell you if you have any or if you're up to date.
Follow the prompts from that point.
This is the cover for the Klipple 2011 Calendar. I tried to use a very simple photo template to showcase the varying view outside our back door. My husband built the British phone box for me several years ago and it has become the icon in many of our photos. On this cover page, it's highlighting almost the same shot in different months or occasions.
I wish I could remember where I pulled the red polka dots from but suffice it to say for now, that I just wanted a bright but simple background layer. How did I put a piece of Designer Series Paper in the background like that? I promise a video (finallllllly) tutorial when I return from Leadership (which is next week in Nashville TN). The nine photos were placed into a 'canned' template which was nice and easy. Rather than matting the photos, I put a drop shadow on each of them. Easier. Each photo was taken as another snow storm blew through our area, most of them in Spring of 2010. One was as late as May and then, bottom row, center, was the first snowfall of 2010 winter, in mid-November. Click on the photo for a close up view.
I'll have a few more pages from my home calendar to share with you tomorrow. Again, it was so much fun to create these calendars and each new month I'll be able to relive and enjoy an event from the previous year. I'll be doing a few MDS video tutorials to help you make yours. Stay tuned.
