In this tutorial I'm using Baja Breeze card stock and Elegant Soirée Designer Series Paper from the 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.
What you'll need:
12" x 12" cardstock, trimmed down to 11" x 12" (save the 1" X 12" piece for later)
Designer Series Paper to coordinate with the 12" x 12" card stock
Personal Paper Cutter with both cutting and scoring blades
HOW TO DO IT:
1- Along the 11" side: score at 4-1/2" and 6-1/2". This will create a 2" spine and 2 4-1/2" sides.
2- Along the 12" side: score at 6" and 10-1/2". 2a- Cut along these score lines to the spine on each side.
3- Along the 11" side: After you have scored and cut along the 12" side, make 2 addition scores, between the cuts, at 2-1/4" from each 12" edge.
4- On each side, fold on the 2-1/4" score line toward the spine, making a 'valley' fold.
5- Fold the 1-1/2" section up, toward the 'far/upper' end of the cardstock. Fold at 'spine' score line and lay flaps on the verticle edges of the spine making a 'U'.
6- DON'T APPLY ADHESIVE YET! SECURE WITH PAPER CLIP FOR NOW. Fold the 2-1/4" segment over the 1-1/2" section and secure with adhesive. You will probably need to trim that outside edge about 1/16".
7- Bring the large side pieces together, folding at the spine. Set them into the base created above.
8- On the outside, make a tick mark with a pencil, where the side pieces meet the base. Transfer that tick mark to the inside.
9- Lay the side flaps flat on the table and, using a rule, make tick marks to the left and right of the spine, 1/2" from the spine on each side.
10- Draw a line from tick mark to tick mark on each side. Remove the triangular section.
10a- Now go back to step 6 and secure the base of the magazine file.
11- Fold the box into its final position and draw a line along each side flap where the flap meets the box. Lay card stock flat one more time and apply adhesive in a rectangle that will be tucked into the box.
DESIGNER SERIES PAPER TRIM:
1- Cut a piece of coordinating Designer Series Paper at 1-3/4" x 12" and 1-3/4" x 2".
2- Score one end, gently, at 1/2". Wrap the DSP around the magazine file, creasing at each corner. Remove, mark the front of the box where there is no card stock. Apply adhesive on all edges of the DSP, being sure to place the adhesive about 1/4" lower at the front of the box (so there is card stock to attach it to!) and position on box. Layer the 1-3/4" x 2" piece over the gap.
1- Select a holder from the Hodgepodge Hardware, either Styled Vanilla (112454) or Styled Silver (111325). I'm using the Raised Dots Oval Holder, Vanilla.
2- Lay the holder on the front of your file and mark the holes with a pencil. Remove holder, and poke through the holes CAREFULLY with the Paper Piercing Tool (116631).
3- At the beginning of this project, you cut 1" off of one edge of the 12" x 12" card stock. Using that piece and the 1-3/8" x 5/8" Oval (formerly knows as Small Oval) punch, punch out a piece of card stock. Label it as you choose: THANK YOU, BIRTHDAY, THINKING OF YOU......
4- Adhere it to the inside of the hardware with tiny droplets of Crystal Effects (101055) which have been dropped inside the rim, not onto the card stock. Set aside for 5-10 minutes to dry.
5- Attach to file with matching brads from the Hodgepodge Hardware Kit.
