Rubber Room Stampin'

STILL CLEANING BUT.....I PLAYED A WEE BIT!

The reason I'm still cleaning in my Country Loft studio is because it really needed to be done.  But my creative time is suffering.  I've filled one garbage can with very stale candies, like some chocolate that's now a powdery white-ish tone.  Yuck!  I gathered some wandering Rub-Ons and put them all in one place.  I don't know about you, but I seem to be a hoarder---I love to look at, for example, the rub-ons, and see great places to use them but just never quite get around to actually using them.  So, in my cleaning I also came upon a bunch (recently purchased!) of yummy See's Candies suckers: Chocolate, Vanilla, Butterscotch, and Café Latte.  And I have 6 or 7 women coming to my home to stamp their brains out next weekend.  And I have some heavy glass containers that I purchased at the dollar store a few months ago that are wanting to be used.

So, wandering Rub-ons (from last year's Stampin' Up! catalog!), yummy suckers, $1 glass containers, stampers who will need sustinance while stamping their Christmas cards.........

I was really testing the brown vs. the white Rub-Ons on the glass.  I like them both but I'm thinking I prefer the white.  But, if I had something lighter colored inside the glass on the right, I might prefer the brown.  Hmmmmmm.

The Rub-On package I used is Old Saint NIck.  I did use Shaklee's Basic H2 (diluted to the 'all-purpose' strength) and a Trader Joe's magic cloth to clean the glass before starting.  And I used a mini vacuum to gather up some of the dust on the window sills.  Back to the project:  The glass was very cold when I brought in into my room from the garage so I let it sit quite a while to warm up.

Tomorrow I'm going to do some stamping.  I'm coming upon all kinds of good ideas as I clean out.  But first I promise to finish instructions #4 and #5 from our October stampin' class.

MOTHERLODE CHRISTMAS CARD STAMP-A-STACK is NOVEMBER 10th

Our annual Christmas Card Stamp-a-Stack will take place in My Country Loft on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 (changed from Wednesday November 18th).   Each participant will be making 20 cards, 4 each of 5 designs of their choice.  You can check out the designs here.  I hope you'll be able to join us.

TESTING, TESTING: Sweet Treats Cups Video!

I have just completed probably my fourth "Boot Camp" with John Sanpietro, my favorite and only stampin' coach.  As you noticed on Monday and Tuesday I had a little problem with the links to the instructions for the cards we made in our FLIP FLOP class last week.  I finally figured out the error of my ways and have corrected them.  Please--if you are still experiencing problems, let me know.  But first, refresh your page or totally bail out of it and come back fresh. 

Today is the day for a video.  I have enclosed one in the distant past, but it's time for another one, with fresh instructions.  And you thought this was all just so easy!!!!  I hope you're laughing with me. 

I've chosen a Sweet Treat Cups video from Stampin' Up! because they (Sweet Cups) are so fun and easy to use.  In the video you'll see a Stampin' Up! employee showing how to use the Sweet Treat Cups on a Salt Lake City television show.  She is demonstrating them for Halloween usage but they can be used for ANYthing, ANY season, ANY time.  I'll be making a few soon for Christmas surprises.  Of course I'll share them when they're done.  Go get your popcorn (eat it with a spoon so you don't get greasies on your projects), sit back, and enjoy.........

FLIP FLAP STAMPIN' CLASS, PART 2

As promised here are the other three cards we made in my Flip Flap class in My Country Loft last Wednesday.  Classes in My County Loft are always held on the third Wednesday of the month.  Check out my newsletter (or sidebar calendar soon) for time, content, and fee.

Below:  My poor Loads of Love stamp set has been sitting idle for too long so I decided to use it on this Slider Card.   I also wanted a winter-y card.  After I finished the basic card I realized it definitely need a pop of color so.......... check the slide out below.........

......A little bit of Real Red ink made this card pop.  I painted the truck with Frost White Shimmer Paint and a fine paint brush.  I shook the bottle and then took the paint from the lid.  You don't need much on your brush.  As for yesterday's cards, instructions will be posted within the coming week.

Winter Post is one of my favorite stamp sets.  Random images but I still just love it.  So I had to find a way to use it on this Waterfall Card.  The 'water does fall' very easily.  One thing I learned while making my card was that I need to place my stamped image layer a little closer to upper fold line so it doesn't peak out of the previous layer---sort of like a slip showing.  Does that date me?  Do women even wear slips anymore!?

 

Our final card is a Shaker card.  I don't know if it's the dry air that creates a lot of static electricity or what, but when I placed the foam layer (Dimensionals) around the area where I wanted the beads, removed the sticky protection and started to position the Window Sheet on the exposed Dimensional, the beads just POPPED right up to the acetate and got all over the sticky layer as well making secure attachment a little less than totally successful.  I now have to figure out how to eliminate that static electricity problem.  I've tried using an Embossing Buddy to reduce the it---doesn't work and just leaves a mess.  Next choice is to not use Micro Beads which is what I had used.  Easy to use something else.  Do you have a suggestion???  I'm going to keep working on it because I do love shaker cards.  :)

I have created my own homework assignment for both you and for me:  me: post the instructions for these cards and, you and me, find another medium for shaking.  Stamping and learning are good things.

FLIP FLAP STAMPIN' CLASS

This past Wednesday I offered a class in My Country Loft here in Mi Wuk Village, that was just full of movement.  Each card had some type of unexpected movement to it.  The cards weren't difficult at all but you did have to follow precise steps to make them. 

Here are the first two:

 

Looking above, the tab on this card should really say PUSH.  When you do push, the flap you see below pops up just like magic!  You can put a wallet sized photo, a party invitation, a greeting..........whatever you like on this pop-up-flap.

And here's the second:

You canNOT image how hard this SIMPLE card has been for me in the past.  Well, score and cut properly and it's really quite easy!!!  I actually amazed myself with success.  You can again place a photo or a greeting on the Certainly Celery panel below.  As shown above, the card will fit into a regular A-2 envelope, the standard size sold by Stampin' Up!.

I will be posting instructions on these two cards (and those that follow tomorrow) next week.  I'm away from home (babysitting yesterday and today and doing my first My Digital Studio class tonight) right now, returning home on Monday.

Have you ever wonder where in the world Mi Wuk Village is located?  Well, it truly is a wide spot in the road, about 15 miles northeast of Sonora California in the California Motherlode.  It's also about 39 "crow" miles from Yosemite National Park. That equates to an almost 2 hour drive however. :)  We're in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 4500 feet elevation.  So, now you know.
