Yes, I know it's March, but our February Stamp Club was canceled due to snow, so we held our class yesterday afternoon. We met in my Country Loft stamp room, over our garage, in Mi Wuk Village. (See that photo in my banner?) We had great fun with the 2 cards made. My goal each month is to highlight a new product and/or technique.
Our first card highlighted the new Eyelet Border Punch, p. 185, 113692, $15.95.
I also used a few other products that don't get used enough----or that lay on a shelf or in a drawer gathering dust. We also used Watercolor Crayons and the Cutter Kit.
What you'll need to make this card:
STAMP SET: Botanical Blooms (SAB 2009)
CARDSTOCK:
Barely Banana: 3-1/4" x 5" and a scrap about 2-1/4" x 2-1/4"
Pretty in Pink: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"
Whisper White: 1-1/2" x 5" and 3" x 4-3/4"
INK: StazOn Jet Black
ACCESSORIES: Punches: Eyelet Border, Large Oval, 1/16" circle; Watercolor Crayons: Barely Banana, Pretty in Pink, Sage Shadow, Regal Rose; Blender Pen/Aqua Painter, Soft Subtle brads, Cutter Kit, Stamp-a-majig
TIP: Be sure you are working in very good light for lining up the Eyelet Border punch. Then you can see the little eyelet holes as you move to the left or the right after your initial punch. I'll add a little tutorial on using this punch in a few days. It's simple, but, if you don't really know how to use the punch, then it's not simple at all!
Our second card featured PLEATS!
You can use this card so it opens on the right..
Or on the bottom (below)..
What you'll need to create this card:
STAMP SET: Polka Dot Punches
CARDSTOCK:
Bashful Blue: 8-1/2: x 5-1/2" and scrap large enough to punch out 1 5-petal flower
Certainly Celery: scrap large enough to punch out three 5-petal flowers
Sahara Sand: 4" x 5-1/4"
So Saffron: scrap large enough to punch out 2 5-petal flowers
Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper (DSP): 12" x 2"
INK: Craft White
ACCESSORIES: Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper (DSP) (SAB 2009), Personal Paper Cutter w/scoring blade; White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Dimensionals, Ribbon Bundle (SAB 2009): So Saffron ribbon: 5-1/2" piece; 1/4" Bashful Blue Grosgrain Ribbon, 5-Petal Punch
Stamp (Whisper White Craft) and emboss (White Embossing Powder) all 6 of the five petal flowers from the Polka Dot Punches stamp set. Set aside.
Score your DSP as follows: 1, 1-1/2, 2-1/2, 3, 4, 4-1/2, 5-1/2, 6, 7, 7-1/2, 8-1/2, 9, 10, 10-1/2 (you are scoring every inch, then half an inch, then inch, then half an inch, etc.)
TIP: If you are going to be making more than one of these cards, score your DSP all at one time, i.e., before cutting it into 2" x 12" pieces; then cut into 2" x 12" strips. That will save you lots of time!!!
Next step: Start folding the DSP from the right end so that the large piece is on top and make a mountain fold. Then the short pieces make the valleys. Just keep following that pattern to the left end.
Put SNAIL adhesive on all of the narrow folded pieces and press down. Run SNAIL down all four sides on the back of your pleated piece. (It will want to curl up like a ball at this point!) Attach to the Sahara Sand piece of CS, balancing the margins on the left, right, and bottom (or side) of the card.
Wrap the So Saffron ribbon over the right side of the Sahara Sand piece--where the wider piece of the DSP is located--and secure on the back with SNAIL. Top the So Saffron ribbon with the piece of Bashful Blue Grosgrain and tie in a knot over the DSP.
Attach the So Saffron and Bashful Blue flowers to the Certainly Celery leaves, using SNAIL adhesive. Attach to the card front with dimensionals. Secure the flower that will lie over the ribbon with 2 dimensionals so it will lay nicely.
I'll be adding photos showing the folding process later today. I think they'll be helpful
